The Silence Between explores the emotional space left behind when love endures beyond certainty.

Inspired by years spent navigating hope, distance and unresolved connection, the installation reflects the repetitive nature of longing, where observing, waiting, remembering, speaking and surrendering become cycles rather than stages.

Through CRT monitors, looping animations and liminal architectural space, fragmented emotional states exist beside one another without resolution. Like unfinished conversations or recurring memories, each repeats independently, capturing the experience of holding on while learning to let go.

Emerging from personal experience, the work considers how technology can bring people incredibly close while leaving them impossibly distant. It invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences of love, grief and absence, and the quiet hope that can remain even after silence becomes permanent.

Nina Bartley (Baby and the Greys) is a Blue Mountains-based artist whose surreal portraiture and dreamlike environments blur the boundary between the internal and physical world.

Referencing Japanese pop culture, digital folklore and esoteric symbolism, her work features isolated figures alongside recurring motifs of tiled rooms, clouds, portals, and the third eye, creating uncanny, otherworldly spaces.

Her practice explores the liminal space between opposites; grief and hope, vulnerability and comfort. It offers a space for contemplation and emotional recognition, reflecting shared experiences of longing, loss, intimacy, and human connection
